Children can start in the nursery once they are three years old. Applications are made for a specific site nursery, however, if places are available on the opposite site, children on the waiting list will be given the option to take up that place.

To apply for a Nursery place at Valence Nursery, parents will be asked to complete a Nursery application form, these can be obtained from the school office. You will need to provide the following documents:

  • Child's passport or birth certificate
  • Council tax or tenancy agreement for proof of residence
  • A bank statement or utility bill for proof of residence

30-Hour Places & Funding

We offer 30-hour places in our Bonham Road Nursery (and St. George's Road from September 2023). Children accessing our 30-hour places will attend from 8:30 until 3:30 every day across the school week and academic year which enables families to fully utilise the Government 30-hour funding. This is our 30-hour offer, we are unable to offer any other flexibility in how the 30 hours are taken.

The Government provides additional funding for eligible families. For more information on eligibility, follow the link www.gov.uk 30 hours free childcare (link opens in new window)

For those parents who are not eligible for 30-hour funding, we will offer the opportunity for parents to utilise the Government 15-hour funding and pay a 'top-up' fee so that the children can attend for the whole day. This will be at a cost of £15 a session. There are a limited number of places which will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.

Parents and carers who wish to access the 30-hour Nursery provision must either provide the school with the government code before the pupil starts attending or pay four weeks' top-up fees in advance. Non-payment could result in the place being withdrawn due to non-compliance with school procedures.

Procedures for admittance to the nursery

Parents are invited to place their child on the waiting list before the third birthday. Parents complete a form which is obtained from either school office. The completed form is then returned to the school office, where you will be asked to present documentary evidence confirming identity and proof of address (for example passport and/or birth certificate of child, council tax bill, tenancy agreement, bank statement or utility bill for parent).

Places are allocated using the same criteria as for admittance to the main school i.e

  1. Children with brothers or sisters currently in the school.
  2. Children who live closest to the school.

If your child is allocated a place, you will be informed during the term prior to eligibility.

Note: Admission to the nursery is not a guarantee of a place in Reception.
