Each month, we are considering one of the Articles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Our Article of the Month for September is Article 27

Every child has a right to a standard of living that is good enough so that they can develop in the best possible way.

At Valence, we are supporting this worthy cause through the tradition of harvest festival, inviting families to volunteer food (from 1st – 24th October) in order to support a local food bank (H-F-T Barking Food Bank) which helps feed people in crisis.

HFT-Barking Foodbank

From 1 - 24 October 2024, we’re asking you to help feed local people in crisis. At Valence, we are collecting tinned and dried food for HFT-Barking Foodbank. We are asking everyone to rally-round to give items such as cooking oil, pasta sauces, tinned veg, tomatoes, tinned meat, rice, UHT milk, fruit juice and drinking chocolate. This collection fits well with the tradition of Harvest.

1 in 5 people in the UK live in poverty; many families hit crisis and cannot afford food. You can help be part of the solution by supporting HFT-Barking Foodbank.

The food bank helps local individuals and families in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies donated by churches, schools, businesses and the general public. The circumstances surrounding a crisis are unique to every individual, so the food bank partners with frontline care professionals, such as health visitors, social workers and other community-based support workers, who are able to identify people facing hunger and refer them to the food bank.

As well as receiving nutritionally-balanced 3-day food parcels, people are welcomed with a cup of tea, listened to and signposted to agencies that are able to help resolve the underlying cause of their crisis.

The demands on the food bank are as strong as ever, and this is where the Valence school community can help. Please join us by giving food, so that local people in crisis don’t go hungry. Donations can be given to the office or class teachers.

NB: Please make sure all food is unopened, non-perishable, in date and undamaged. Thank you!

Thank you
