Special days
Welcome back to the summer term. To all those who have been celebrating Easter with family and friends, we hope that you have had a wonderful and enjoyable time.
April 23rd is St. George’s Day, and we will be holding a special assembly to help the pupils understand the significance of patron saints’ days, national days and what is means to be patriotic.
We will also be commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory Europe (VE) Day on Wednesday 8th May with special activities.
Nursery places
We are registering for September 2025, and at both sites, we offer ALL-DAY provision (8.30am - 3.30pm) to a limited number of pupils. Enquire at the offices about places and procedures. Don’t miss out…….
Polite reminder
Pupils are asked not to play football or basketball, ride scooters or bikes, etc in the playgrounds before and after school, due to the number of parents and other children on site….
Rights Respecting School
We are embedding our commitment to UNICEF's Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA).
At Valence, we are always striving to create the best possible learning environment for our children, and this achievement shows that we are committed to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging them to respect the rights of others in school. This month, we are focusing on Article 29 and our responsibility for the environment.
Home-school communication
If you have a message for the class teacher, please pass it via the member of staff on duty by the entrance doors or use ClassDojo. It is not always convenient for the teacher to talk at 8.45am, as they are preparing the class and taking the register.
Year 6 KS2 test week
Across England, year 6 pupils will be taking national tests in:
- English grammar, punctuation and spelling
- English reading
- Mathematics
These national tests will take place from Monday 12 May to Thursday 15 May. Teachers will also be assessing the pupils’ writing in the summer term.
The Roost
Have you been to The Roost? At Bonham Road, the school house was refurbished as a fabulous facility that will help families engage more with their children, whilst at St. George's we have a room specifically set aside as The Roost (in the Y6/ARP building).
The Roost supports pupils with additional needs who need to access a wide range of services. Local organisations partner with the school to use the house for the benefit of the school community, ensuring that the pupils of Valence continue to have the best provision possible. Please talk to Vicky Goode, our Parent Support Advisor, for more details.
The Roost also is a source of quality used uniforms for distribution.
Want to get involved?
It is so encouraging to see parents and carers getting involved in the life of the school. If you have time, even for a couple of hours, why not volunteer at school? Give your name to the office. We need adults to:
- read with children
- help out at events such as parties, concerts, charity days
- join a painting working party to spruce up the Early Years playground
- share your skills with the pupils e.g. cooking, drawing, sewing, etc
- support the gardening clubs
Why is attending school every day so important?
Let’s aim high – aim for 100% attendance. This gives children the best chance to succeed. The government research says that in order for pupils to make the best progress, they should be in school at least 96.5% attendance. Do you know your child’s attendance percentage? The class teacher can inform you.
