Valence’s Junior Daggers Progress into Southern Regional Finals
The Dagenham & Redbridge Community Trust have once again entered the National League Trust Under 11 Schools’ Cup Competition. Every team in the National League, including the North and South Divisions, nominates two local schools to represent them in the competition.
The Daggers Community Trust works closely with the Barking and Dagenham Schools’ Football Association (BDSFA) and is represented by the two schools which win the well supported local district cup competitions.
Valence School Boys and Henry Green Girls, nominated by the BDSFA, set off early from their schools and made the journey to Boreham Wood FC. In total, fourteen teams were involved in this year’s SE Regional Final. There were seven boys’ teams and seven girls’ teams. A league competition in the morning and a knock out cup competition for the teams in top four places in the afternoon.
Both boys and girls Daggers’ teams met Leyton Orient in their respective finals, meaning both teams have secured places into the next round of the competition. The teams representing Orient won both finals putting them on top, but with both teams finishing second it means they still progress to the Southern Regional Finals later this year.
The Valence pupils were a credit to their schools, their teachers, community and themselves and we look forward to representing the Daggers again. Congratulations to Valence (Dagenham and Redbridge) on reaching the final, beating Hemel Hempstead Town, St Albans City, Boreham Wood, Barnet and Braintree respectively, before narrowly losing to Leyton Orient after a 1-1 draw in the final before finishing 2-3 on penalties. We are proud of our silver medals!
A special mention must go to National League Trust and to Billy Hunter and his staff at Boreham Wood FC who once again organised a fantastic tournament, which was a pleasure to be involved in. All players received a medal and certificate from Paul Fairclough, the Manager of the England C team.
