May 2022 Newsletter

Keep up to date with news from across both sites and upcoming events with our monthly newsletter.

Jubilee Day

This term, we will be joining in the celebration of the Queen’s remarkable service to the British nation. Her Majesty has served for 70 years, the longest of any British monarch.

We will be holding a Jubilee Day on Friday 27 May on both sites. We have changed the original plan to ensure that the pupils have the best experience during the whole day. Pupils will be involved in activities and games inside and outside, including bouncy castles, traditional games, music and sport. There will be a traditional fish and chips lunch on offer, and the school will provide an afternoon tea of a drink, sandwiches and cake for all the pupils to enjoy.

If you would like to help out during the day, please let your class teacher know by Class Dojo.

Nursery Places

We are registering for September 2022. Enquire at the offices about places and procedures. Don’t miss out - from September we are offering ALL-DAY (8.30am – 3.30pm) provision at Bonham Road.

Lost Property

We have collected a large amount of lost property. Soon we will be sorting it out and putting items into the Roosts for others to use. Claim it soon!

Walk to School

The week beginning 16th May is Walk to School Week. We challenge families to park even a little way from the school as this reduces congestion and air pollution at the school gates and improves road safety. We appreciate that not everyone can walk a distance but hope that all can join in and be walking ambassadors, cheering on friends and family who give it a go. Look out for a competition to raise awareness of all the benefits of walking to school.

Office Request

Please avoid, wherever possible, bringing items to the office that children have forgotten at home. It is not convenient for the office staff to be delivering forgotten PE kits, packed lunches, glasses, etc all across the school.

Safety Reminder

If you are arranging for a friend or relative to collect your child, please inform the office and relevant staff in advance.

Be on Time!

A reminder that for Y1 to Y6 the gates open at 8.30am and the class doors open at 8.45am. The pupils are straight to work with their morning tasks, so even if they are a few minutes late, they are missing valuable learning time.

We continue to teach a broad and balanced curriculum with a key focus on developing maths and literacy skills alongside science, history, geography, art, design and technology, and sport. We also deliver PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) lessons, which are designed to support pupils with their emotional and mindful development.

Don’t Throw Them Away!

We are on the lookout for good quality items you may be tempted to throw away:

  • unwanted quality toys for the Roost
  • quality books and comics
  • uniform – fleeces and jumpers in particular
  • houseplants
  • arts & craft donations

Celebrating Effort, Good Behaviour and Hard Work

At Valence, we place a high value on developing children’s sense of worth and self-esteem. We love to celebrate both effort and achievement in academic and social settings. We have an approach where we support pupils to Go for Gold based on the following school rules:

  • Listen to and co-operate with each other
  • Follow adults’ instructions
  • Treat everyone with politeness, kindness, courtesy and respect
  • Work to the best of our ability
  • Move safely and calmly around school
  • Respect our school environment

Children who consistently follow the school rules, who set a positive example for others to follow and who demonstrate a positive attitude toward others can achieve a GOLD reward.
