April 2021 Newsletter
Keep up to date with news from across both sites and upcoming events with our monthly newsletters.
To mark the date that was 12th March 2021 (12-3-21, which reads the same forward as backwards) and to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, we held a Battle of the Bands in aid of Red Nose Day. It was part of a UK-wide Rock Down Relief event run by Times Tables Rock Stars and was the biggest times tables event in the country ever!
The Times Tables Rock Stars platform calculated the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who played during the competition hours). For all children who took part, Times Tables Rock Stars donated 5p to Red Nose Day. We helped raise £3,797.45 for Comic Relief.
Please avoid coming into the offices with forgotten packed lunches, PE kits, etc., as this can cause overcrowding and social distancing is difficult. Where possible, use the phone or email to communicate information.
Our before and after school provision (GEMS) is operating on both sites, and we have spaces. Please enquire at the offices should you wish to know more details.
We are planning to re-start after-school clubs and will be sending more information shortly.
Everyone is welcome to join our virtual meetings with our Parent Support Advisers:
- St. George’s Thursdays 2.00pm
- Bonham Thursdays 11.30am The invite is contained in the Parentmail sent out every week.
The Muslim month of fasting started last week, and we wish Ramadan Mubarak to all celebrating.
Parents, carers & teacher meetings
These will take place next week online. More information will be sent separately.
- The younger children love to play with “baby” items - please can we have donations of baby dolls to dress, wash and cuddle, and a cot would be nice too.
- Plants - to anyone 'potting out' right now. Any spare summer bedding plants would be appreciated, also seedlings (not seeds), herbs and small hardy shrubs.
- Buckets and spades - don't throw them away - EYFS have sand waiting to turn into castles.
- Trowels and watering cans – send them our way………
We are now collecting donations for costumes that can be used for themed events during the school year. These are the days that the children have the opportunity to dress up. The dress up days we participate in at Valence are: Red Nose Day, Children in Need (Pudsey Bear Day), Victorian Day, Greek Day, World Book Day, African dress up day, Young Carers Awareness Dress Up in Yellow Day, Numbers Day and Christmas Jumper Day.
Once we have a stock of costumes and T-shirts, we will be able to offer the children the opportunity to borrow them for the day. This will mean we will be able to help lots of families to save time searching for costumes and save money to buy just for one day! Please could you bring any unwanted costumes to the school lobby area where there is a box to leave them in.
Pupils are encouraged to bring in their own labelled water bottles, especially as the weather warms and the water fountains are currently out of use for health and safety reasons.
We have a selection of nearly new school uniform available in The Roost free of charge. Please contact the offices, who will be happy to assist you. If you have any uniform in good condition to donate to the school, please bring them to the school office.
- Masks to be worn in the playgrounds by adults, unless you have an exemption.
- No dogs in the playgrounds.
- Scooters and bikes to be pushed, not ridden, in the playground.
Thank you for all your kind donations which will be forwarded to Carers of Barking & Dagenham to support the Young Carers. If you think your child is a Young Carer, please speak to Vicky Goode at our Bonham site or Lynne Pollard-Page at our St. George's site for more information.
