Barking and Arsenal Trophy

On Tuesday 2nd April, our Year 2 and 3 football team reached the final of the Barking and Arsenal trophy at Barking stadium.

Valence played with wonderful skill and passed the ball around beautifully, scoring many goals in the group stage. We raced into leads against George Carey, Manor Longbridge and Thamesview, beating them 3 - 0, 2-0 and 4-1 respectively, with all squad players getting valuable game time.

Valence, therefore topped their group with 9 points to set up a mouthwatering semi-final against St Josephs of Barking, eventually beating them 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. Valence advanced to the A grade final against George Carey's first team. After conceding early, we drew level shortly after thanks to an excellent Oba Adetona goal. After a tremendous physical battle against George Carey, we conceded late in the game to lose the final 2-1.

Congratulations to the team for playing with determination and sportsmanship. All players received a certificate and Oba Adetona received a trophy for being the best player of the tournament. Many other pupils will be added to the Year 3 training squad after the Easter break and to summarize in one sentence, the future of Valence football looks bright!
