Special school closure
As I informed the school in September, very sadly and unexpectedly a treasured member of the school teaching staff, Mrs Yemi Ereoah, passed away after a short illness in the summer holidays. This was a great shock for everyone who knew her: staff, parents and pupils. We have been waiting for news of the funeral arrangements ever since, which have been delayed for a number of reasons, and we have just been informed that the funeral will take place on Friday 26th April at 10am. The school governors have agreed that the school will be closed to pupils on FRIDAY 26th APRIL in order to allow staff to pay their respects to a much-loved colleague. Thank you for your understanding.
Be aware online
Does your child need to be in an online group? Do you know whom they are talking to? Parents, please be involved with what your children are doing on the internet and do not leave them unsupervised. Many pupils are joining chat groups with their friends, and we are hearing that too frequently pupils are being unkind to each other. Let’s ensure that we use technology wisely.
We are delighted to invite all parents, staff and friends of Valence to a Quiz Night at 7.30pm on Thursday 4th April at the Bonham Road site. Tickets are £5 per person with tables seating teams of no more than eight people. Come along with your friends to show off your general knowledge and claim the trophy! You are welcome to join a team on the night, or pre-arrange and book a whole table. You can bring your own drinks and nibbles. Tea and coffee will also be available. There will be a grand Raffle during the evening. All proceeds will go towards the development of the school playgrounds. Tickets are still on sale in the offices.
A thank you to families for their ongoing support as the year 6 pupils prepare for the SATs in May. Also, well done to the staff for giving all the Booster sessions, and we are now looking forward to complete the assessments. Have a good break over the holidays and keep up with the reading.
Need some parenting help? If you would like to learn more parenting tips, please look out for our Parent Gym sessions that will be running in the summer term. Contact Mrs Clare Berry at the office for more information.
Smart school council
The Smart School Council has been hard at work setting up Class Meetings so that every child in the school has a voice. The Action Teams are hard at work raising funds to improve the school playground. We appreciate all the support thus far.
Friends of Valence
This group is open to parents, carers and friends of Valence who are eager to support the school in ways such as helping to organise a summer fete, arranging a Christmas disco, helping in the libraries, suggesting fund-raising ideas, etc. Our focus for fund-raising this year is the development of the playgrounds for the enjoyment of the pupils. You are welcome to hand in your name to the offices or attend one of the coffee and cake meetings.
Please do not smoke near the school gates out of respect for our children’s health.
