Valence School Playground Development Plan

Playground Development Plans

Pupils, parents, governors and teaching staff from Valence Primary School are trying to raise £50,000 to make their dreams come true of having an improved playground on both sites.

Valence Primary school is a two-site school consisting of Valence St. George’s and Valence Bonham.

Motivation behind the new playground proposals at St. George’s

The pupils at St. George’s are fortunate to have a field on site available for the autumn and summer term but, due to the severe drought and over-use of the field, an uneven and unsafe field surface has developed.

At present, many of our Key Stage 2 pupils use the main playground at break time and lunchtime and the plan is to section the playground into different play areas to help our pupils engage in daily physical habits across the week, every week of the academic school year.

Aims

  • Level off the field surface and re-sow the field
  • Professionally paint a 2-metre-wide running track around the main playground for all pupils to take part in the daily golden mile run/walk to encourage everyone to lead a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Section the large playground into two multi-purpose courts and build in four permanent basketball posts and four permanent goals to allow a range of sports to be played at break time, lunch time, PE lessons and after school clubs
  • Develop a quiet zone for pupils to sit and chat with their peers at the corner of the school field

Motivation behind the new playground proposals at Bonham

The pupils at Bonham have a small uneven playground to play football at the back of the school which needs improving. We also have a large front concrete playground which needs to be sectioned to help our pupils engage in daily physical habits across the week, every week of the academic school year.

Aims

  • Level off the football area at the back of the school and lay a small muga (multi-use games area) for the pupils to play football
  • Section an area of the large playground into a multi-purpose court and build in two permanent basketball posts and two permanent goals to allow a range of sports to be played at break time, lunch time, PE lessons and after school clubs
  • Professionally paint a 2-metre-wide running track around the main playground for all pupils to take part in the daily golden mile run/walk to encourage everyone to lead a healthy and active lifestyle

In the current economic climate and recent changes to school funding, there is little money for essential resources such as playground development, which is why we have started this drive to raise funds to pay for our children’s dreams. We are hoping parents, relatives, local companies and the wider business community will contribute to the playground development at Valence.  More details to follow.
